Internship Interview: Fail

I am still getting used to this whole internship interview process but I am pretty sure that when the interviewer tells you to go work somewhere else your chances of getting the internship are pretty much squashed.

One of the premier ad agencies in the world CP+Bogusky came to our school to make a presentation and interview students for internships. I was able to be part of a group interview and they asked us what we were passionate about.

I talked (for waaaaaaaay to long…I think the others in the interview wanted to kill me) about how I am the worlds biggest Colorado Rockies fan and that I could prove it by naming everyone on the minor league rosters. Apparently, that was the wrong thing to say.

They went on to tell me that I should pursue only do things that we are passionate about and that I should go work for the Rockies. They also said if you don’t like what you do then you will hate doing everyday for work.

I know they were probably saying that I should pursue my passion but maybe it was a nice way of them telling me that I was not meant to work for them. Who knows what they meant, all I know is that I assume the worst in situations like this.

So a word of advice to all of you out there interviewing for internships, don’t babble on forever about your weird hobbies. If you have a really cool passion like painting or feeding mentally disabled orphans with no arms, by all means babble away. I’m sure they will eat that up. Obscure baseball trivia? Not so much.
